Terms & conditions
These terms set out how we work together on your move — what we agree to do, what we ask of you, and how quotes, liability, claims and payment are handled.
These terms and conditions apply to removals and storage services provided by Lewisham Removals ("we", "us", "our") to you, the customer. By accepting a quotation or booking a move with us, you agree to these terms. Please read them alongside your written quotation, which together form the agreement between us.
1. Quotations
We provide a written quotation based on the information you give us — the addresses, the size of the move, access at both ends, and anything you tell us about the items and timing. Unless we state otherwise in writing, a quotation is valid for fourteen days from its date. If your circumstances change — extra items, a different property, altered access, or a change of date — the quotation may need to be revised. A quotation is an estimate based on what we have been told; if the job on the day differs materially from what was described, the price may be adjusted to reflect the actual work.
2. Booking and deposit
Your move is confirmed once you accept the quotation and, where we ask for one, pay a booking deposit. The deposit secures your date and is put towards the total cost of the move. If you cancel a confirmed booking, any refund of the deposit will be made within fourteen days of your cancellation, subject to any cancellation terms set out in your quotation to cover costs already incurred where you cancel close to the moving date.
3. Your responsibilities
As the customer, you agree to:
- Give us accurate and complete information about the move, including a fair description of the items and any that are especially fragile, valuable or heavy;
- Declare in advance any items that need special handling, so we can plan and equip for them;
- Arrange safe and lawful access at both properties, including any lift bookings for flats;
- Arrange suitable parking and, where needed, any parking permit or bay suspension so our vehicle can load and unload close to the property;
- Be present, or have an authorised adult present, at collection and delivery to give directions and check the goods;
- Ensure that everything to be moved is ready and, where agreed, properly packed before we arrive.
Where parking, access or permits are not arranged and this causes delay or additional work, any resulting extra cost may be added to your bill.
4. Items we will not carry
For safety and legal reasons, we cannot transport certain items. These include, but are not limited to:
- Hazardous, flammable, explosive or corrosive materials, including gas bottles, fuels, paints and solvents;
- Perishable food and plants that may spoil or leak in transit;
- Illegal items, firearms and ammunition;
- Cash, jewellery, watches, precious metals and stones, and important documents, which you should carry yourself.
If you are unsure whether something can be moved, please ask us before the day. We are not liable for loss or damage arising from undeclared items in these categories.
5. Liability and insurance
We handle your belongings with care and carry goods-in-transit and public liability cover appropriate to our work. Before you book, we will explain what that cover means for your goods and any limits that apply. For items of particular value, please tell us in advance so we can discuss whether additional cover is appropriate. We are not liable for damage to goods you have packed yourself where the damage results from inadequate packing, nor for pre-existing wear or defects, nor for loss caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
6. Claims
If anything is lost or damaged during the move, please tell us as soon as you notice it and confirm your claim in writing within seven days of delivery, keeping the item and its packaging so we can inspect it. Reporting promptly helps us investigate and resolve claims fairly. We will handle any claim in line with the cover in place and these terms.
7. Payment
Payment of the balance is due on or before completion of the move, unless we have agreed different terms with you in writing. We accept the payment methods set out in your quotation or invoice. We reserve the right to withhold delivery of goods until payment due has been made, and any storage that becomes necessary as a result may be chargeable.
8. Storage
Where we store your goods, storage is charged for the agreed period and continues until you give us reasonable notice to end it and any outstanding charges are settled. Stored goods remain subject to these terms and to the cover in place for storage. Please keep your contact details up to date so we can reach you about your stored items.
9. Cancellation and delays
If you need to cancel or move your date, please tell us as early as you can so we can adjust our schedule. Occasionally a move may be affected by circumstances beyond our control, such as severe weather, traffic incidents or breakdowns; where this happens we will keep you informed and work with you to reschedule promptly.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Questions
If anything here is unclear, please ask before you book — we would rather talk it through than leave you guessing. Email us at hello@lewisham-removals.uk and a member of the Lewisham Removals team will help.
